I had the pleasure of working with my friend, Danner Evans, to help her create her new daughter’s Southern Chic nursery. She called us because she wanted transform her baby boy nursery into a high-end baby girl’s nursery while still keeping many of the existing elements like the soft blue walls and rug. How do we make a room girly with all this blue?
Danner has two older sons Luke (age 5) and Mac (age 2), when she discovered she was pregnant she knew she needed to transform the boys nursery into a little girl’s space, but she had recently painted the room and had purchased the blue rug so she wanted to keep both of these elements in the space. The trick to this space was to soften all the blue and throw in a fun girly accent color. We were able to use many of the pieces from the boys room such as the crib , dresser, nightstand and bookshelf. All of these pieces were already white so they were easily transitioned from a boys room to Dabney’s nursery.
Because so many of the large furniture pieces had already been purchased, we we able to focus her budget on new bedding, window treatments, reupholstering her rocking chair, stenciling the feature wall and accessories.
The biggest investment in this room were the custom drapery panels. She wanted beautiful panels while not losing functionality. We created these classic white draperies with a coral stripe that ties in the coral and whites in the room together. We lined and innerlined the drapes making them ideal for nap and bed time. Although these were the biggest investment in the room Danner felt that this was a piece that Dabney can grow with. These draperies add the feminine touch that this room was missing. We think they came out beautifully!
We were excited to find out that Danner’s nursery was chosen to be featured in the January/February addition of Lynchburg Living Magazine. Pick up your copy and read the whole article “A Classic and Traditional Nursery.” I loved working on this project with Danner, I am so happy that we were able to turn a little boys room into the princess room Dabney deserves!
